One taste and you’ll never go back to store-bought. Guaranteed!

Serves 4–6

  • 3 Pink Lady or Honeycrisp apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp cardamom (or additional cinnamon)

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

Place apple chunks in a 9x13-inch (23x33-cm) baking dish. Add remaining ingredients. Toss to combine.

Cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake for 1½–2 hours, until the apples are tender.

Using a potato masher or fork, mash the apples to your desired consistency.

Applesauce can be refrigerated in an airtight container for four days or frozen for three months.
