Peace Unto Your House

“Lishtok, u’l’chabed — remain silent and to show respect”

The petitioner at the home of Ponevezh Rosh Yeshivah Rav Gershon Edelstein had come for a brachah. Shalom bayis was still a struggle, even after years of marriage. And although he had read books, heard lectures and sought advice, a brachah from the gadol seemed to be the magical last option. But Rav Gershon told him just two words, repeating them several times. “Lishtok, u’l’chabed — remain silent and to show respect.” After a few seconds of the Rosh Yeshivah repeating them, the gentleman finally understood that this was indeed the brachah he’d asked for.
